After growing up and going to school in Lebanon, Prof. Chaoui attended medical school in Germany. He specialized in Prenatal Diagnosis at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charite Hospital in conjunction with Humboldt University, Berlin. He first started using ultrasound in 1986 and became interested in Cardiovascular Hemodynamics in Fetal Echocardiography using Doppler ultrasound in 1987.

In 2001, he became a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charite Hospital in Berlin, and has been at the Private Center for Prenatal Diagnosis and Human Genetics in Berlin since 2004. He is a Member of the Board of the International Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as a Member of the Board of DEGUM, where he is also Level III certified.

In addition to his other duties, he is a member of the editorial board of several national and international journals and author and co-author of more than 200 articles and monographies.

Professor Simon Meagher was born and raised in Dublin Ireland. He attended medical school in Dublin, speciality training (Ob&Gyn) in London and subspeciality training in Ob/Gyn ultrasound in Melbourne Australia. Professor Meagher is the medical director of Monash Ultrasound for Women and oversees a staff of 50 providing a wide range of tertiary Ob&Gyn ultrasound services across South East Melbourne. He is a consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the Mercy Hospital for Women.

A/Prof Lisa Hui is an obstetrician with subspecialist qualifications in maternal fetal medicine. She completed her clinical training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Sydney and performed her PhD research at the Mother Infant Research Institute in Boston before moving to Melbourne in 2013. She has clinical appointments at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg, and The Northern Hosptial, Epping, and is Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne. In 2016 she was awarded an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship and a Sylvia Charles Viertel Clinical investigatorship. She is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Women's Health Committee, RANZCOG

Maternal Fetal Medicine subcommittee, and the Victorian Consultative Committee on Obstetric and Paediatric Morbidity and Mortality, Stillbirth subcommittee. She also serves in senior editorial roles with the scientific journals Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Prenatal Diagnosis

As a specialist in maternal and foetal medicine, Professor Jon Hyett looks after pregnancies that have a high risk of complication - either for the mother, or for the foetus.

Professor Hyett has worked at RPA for five years, having trained in obstetrics, maternal and foetal medicine in the UK before working in Australia. At Royal Prince Alfred, he leads a research group which has a strong clinical focus and a continual dedication to research to maintain the highest standards of obstetric care.

The group’s main research interest is to predict risk of pregnancy complication, either at an early stage (12 weeks), or immediately before delivery (at 36 weeks).

The group is currently working on a way to predict the risk of pre-eclampsia, a disease harmful to both the mother and foetus. If a risk is found at 12 weeks’ pregnancy, simple treatments like aspirin may prevent the onset of this disease.

Professor Hyett’s team is also leading the way in Australia with non-intrusive ways to screen pregnant women. A simple blood test can be used to define the foetus’ blood group by testing minute amounts of foetal DNA found in the mother. The group is on the cusp of a breakthrough by testing how this method may be used to screen for Down Syndrome, and other complications, at as early as 10 weeks into a pregnancy.

Through a National Health and Medical Research Council grant, the group is also studying the effect of rotating babies that are badly positioned during labour to reduce the rate of caesarean sections.

High risk obstetrics is a rewarding and diverse speciality for Professor Hyett who is constantly kept busy with the range of research needs this field demands.

Dr. Tristan Hardy is a consultant at Repromed and is undertaking training in genetic pathology at SA Pathology. His major interest is in the application of genomic technologies to all areas of reproductive and fetal medicine.

He has undertaken research in optimising preimplantation genetic testing for single gene disorders using next generation sequencing technology, and has a subspecialty clinic at Repromed with Dr. Jan Liebelt (Clinical Geneticist) reviewing patients who require preimplantation genetic testing.

He also consults to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department at the Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide for issues relating to prenatal diagnosis and follow up of stillbirth and fetal abnormalities

Monash Ultrasound For Women genetic counselling department is lead by Dr Melody Menezes (BSc(Hons), GDipGenetCouns, PhD, MHGSA). Melody received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Medicine in 2011, studying fetal development and medicine, and genetic counselling.

Melody’s studies at The University of Melbourne also included her Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counselling (2007). Her undergraduate study at The University of Guelph Ontario, Canada saw her achieve Honours, majoring in molecular biology and genetics (2005).

Melody has held a position as Post-doctoral Research Officer at both the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (Genetics Education and Health Research department) and the Victorian Clinical Genetics Service (Genetic Health Research). She has worked as Associate Genetic

Counsellor at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne and is in her 6th year as lecturer at The University of Melbourne, educating both undergraduates and masters students.

Melody’s role as an educator extends to national and international conferences and she has several publications in medical and counselling journals.

Of special interest to Melody is ethics in medicine, and prenatal screening and testing.

Dr Rolnik completed his Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. He then went on to work with Professor Kypros Nicolaides and undertook the Diploma in Fetal Medicine at the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London.

During this time, Dr Rolnik became involved in the ASPRE trial, a large scale randomised trial investigating the role of low dose aspirin in preventing pre-eclampsia in the context of a large first trimester screening program. The findings from this study, published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, have the potential to lead to a paradigm shift not only in the prevention of pre-eclampsia, but also in the way antenatal care is delivered.
